Our referral navigator works directly and collaboratively with patients, referring provider offices and other members of the healthcare team to facilitate the patient's access to appropriate health care services and community resources in order to ensure prompt and effective transition of care.
*This is a 20 hr/wk position working 10 hour shifts on Mondays and Thursdays.
Receives and processes all paper and electronic referrals from WHA clinicians. Reviews clinician orders and communicates with referring provider offices to assist in getting an appointment set up for the patient. Notifies the patient that the referral appointment has been scheduled.
Verifies the patient's insurance and obtains authorizations for referrals. Contacts patient when authorization is complete.
Addresses questions and concerns with patients regarding their referral and the referral process. Communicates any expected delays due to lack of referrals, pending authorizations, denials and appeals to the patient in a timely manner.
Contacts patients to ensure that their referral appointments are kept. Accesses encounter information in the patient's electronic medical record to determine if patient complied with referral recommendations. Contacts non-compliant patients to determine reasons for not keeping appointments and documents such in patient's electronic medical record. Informs referring clinician of status of unused referrals.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Medical office experience required, preferably in an OB/GYN medical group practice.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance practices.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of medical practice management scheduling software and time requirements for scheduling.
- Must be able to successfully complete a background check.
*This is a 40 hour/week position, working some evenings and weekends.
